The blond girl named Galinda, is portrayed as a lovable girl while her friend Elphaba is seen as the bad girl and lives against the odds of the society. As the story unfolds, Elphaba is an awkward girl who is brought up by a single parent. Elphaba's father left when she was born causing a lot of pain as she grew up. As a result, Elphaba felt unloved and unwanted in society, different and out of place from other girls in society. About the Gershwin Theatre
The Wicked achieved the largest box office record in history. The performances generated the largest grossing weeks for any musical of Broadway theatre. For the week ending January 2, 2011 the production grossed $2,228,235 over eight performances, which really showed the audience attraction for any Broadway show out there today. The Gershwin Theatre is situated on the lower level of a towering office complex which was the old site of a historic Capitol Theatre.
In November 28, 1972 it opened under the name of the Uris Theatre (named after the building developer Uris Brothers) hosting the musical Via Galactica starring Raul Julia. Unfortunately, the first show losted a million dollars and closed after only seven performances. In 1974 - 76 it hosted limited engagements for legendary jazz and pop music performers.
The Gershwin Theatre was named after the composer George Gershwin and lyricist Ira Gershwin. The Theatre is located at at 222 West 51st Street in midtown-Manhattan in the Paramount Plaza building. It had the highest seaing capacity of any broadway theatre which maxed out at 1,933 seats.
