About the Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings football team play in the NFC North Division, competing with key rivals the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears. The franchise was established in 1961, and before playing a single NFL game, the team added perhaps its most recognizable player to its roster. With their 1961 third round NFL Draft pick they selected quarterback Fran Tarkenton to lead the team. In his 13 NFL seasons in a Vikings uniform, Fran Tarkenton racked up more than 33,000 passing yards and threw 239 touchdowns, both team records. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1986.

Vikings season ticket holders now get to watch a new transcendent athlete each week with running back Adrian Peterson. The all-pro running back was drafted by the Vikings in 2007 as the seventh pick in the NFL Draft and since then has taken football by storm. He won the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in his first season and led the league in rushing yards in his second NFL season. Both years Peterson was selected as an NFL Pro Bowler, winning the All-Star game's Most Valuable Player award in 2008.

The Vikings are currently led by head coach Brad Childress, who previously held the position of offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles. Childress has plenty of talent on his roster that he will have to get the most out of this football season. In addition to running back Adrian Peterson, the Vikings have defensive linemen Jared Allen, Pat Williams and Kevin Williams, cornerback Antoine Winfield, wide receiver Bernard Berrian and 2009 NFL Draft pick Percy Harvin.

Each of the players on the Vikings roster will be battling for the NFC North title and a trip back to the NFL Playoffs.
