They are members of the South Division of the American Football Conference (AFC). The Colts won four NFL championships (three NFL Championships in 1958, 1959, 1968; and Super Bowl V in 1971) while in Baltimore. Since moving to Indianapolis, they won Super Bowl XLI in 2007.
Fact: In 2008, Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning and his brother, New York Giants QB Eli Manning, became the first brothers to lead their teams to Super Bowl championships in consecutive years (Peyton in 2007, Eli in 2008).
Fact: Since 1998, the team has become the first in league history to win 12 games or more in five consecutive seasons—extending this record to seven after the 2009 season.
Fact: Weeb Ewbank, the coach that helped build the Baltimore Colts, left to become the coach of the New York Jets, where he beat the Colts in Super Bowl III.
Fact: In 1972, Colts then-owner Carroll Rosenbloom and Robert Irsay, who owned the Los Angeles Rams, completed an historic trade of franchises with each other. |
