About the Patriots

The New England Patriots have become one of the most storied franchises in NtFL history as fans buy Pats tickets  and pack into Gillette Stadium year after year. Founded in 1960, the Patriots are a charter member of the American Football League when they were known as the Boston Patriots. By 1971, they had changed their name to represent the entire Northeast region and have been known as the New England Patriots ever since.

While the team had two appearances in the Super Bowl through 2000, it wasn't until 2001 that the Patriots changed their reputation around the NFL. Over the next four years, the Patriots captured three Super Bowl championships and have since been referred to as a dynasty. The football team has continued its winning ways ever since, and each year they have been anchored by two individuals, head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady.

From his hiring as head coach, Belichick has compiled a record of 112-48 in New England through 2009 and has been the best football coach in the NFL. Like many other great coaches before him though, Belichick has had the benefit of coaching great players and the best of those is without question quarterback Tom Brady. Brady, along with Colts QB Peyton Manning, has been considered among the most elite quarterbacks in the NFL. This football season he will have even more weapons on offense at his disposal. In addition to the return of Randy Moss and Wes Welker, fans in the stands who bought Patriots tickets this season will recognize the newest receiver in town, Torry Holt. Known for his time in St. Louis, Holt is among the best route runners in the NFL and despite his older age, he will be an important part of the 2010 offense.

While Brady will be the key to the offense it will be the Patriots defense that could be the key to their NFL success this season. Returning starters Vince Wilfork, Ty Warren and Mike Wright will anchor the defensive line, while middle linebacker Jerod Mayo will be back hoping to improve on a lackluster second season. Cornerback Darius Butler had a solid rookie season, but will need to be better if the Patriots defense is going to stop the high-scoring offenses of the AFC East.

The Patriots play their home games at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts.
