About the Golden State Warriors

Before making their way to the west coast to become the Golden State Warriors, the franchise got their start on the east coast in the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia. The Warriors began play in 1946 as part of the Basketball Association of America and got off to a fast start. In the league's first season in existence, the Warriors won the BAA Championship by defeating the Chicago Stags. Just a couple of years later, the BAA and National Basketball League joined forces to create the National Basketball Association. It was as part of the NBA that the Warriors drafted perhaps the greatest center to ever play the game in 1959.

Wilt Chamberlain joined the Warriors in that year, and his combination of size and unique skills made him an unstoppable force. As a member of the Warriors, Chamberlain scored an NBA record 100 points in a single game against the New York Knicks. The game now lives in basketball lore as an unbreakable record, one that perhaps will never be broken. Over his career, "Wilt the Stilt" would score nearly 18,000 points as a member of the Warriors, including a season averaging more than 50 points per game, before his trade to the Philadelphia 76ers in 1965.

The Warriors officially became known as the Golden State Warriors in 1971 after nine years as the San Francisco Warriors (they moved from Philadelphia in 1962). While their first NBA Championship came in 1956 on the East Coast, the Golden State Warriors were able to match that accomplishment in 1975 when they won the NBA Title against the Washington Bullets in a four-game sweep that showed Warriors fans that they were the dominant team that season, led by players like Rick Barry and Jamaal Wilkes.

In seasons that followed for the Golden State Warriors, many great players put on their uniform. Some of those players included Chris Mullen, Tim Hardaway and Chris Webber. They now look to find their way back to the top of the Western Conference and you can show your support by getting great Golden State Warriors tickets today.
