About the Minnesota Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves were not the first team to call the Twin Cities home, as the Minneapolis Lakers resided there up until 1960. The Lakers left for Los Angeles in 1960, and it took 29 years before fans in Minnesota could purchase basketball tickets again to root on the home team. In 1989, the Minnesota Timberwolves were one of four expansion teams that joined the National Basketball Association. Over his 12 seasons in Minnesota, Kevin Garnett posted huge numbers as well as a long list of accomplishments. He led the Timberwolves to eight postseason appearances, including a trip to the Western Conference finals in 2004. That same season, he was named the NBA's Most Valuable Player as well as being on the NBA All First Team and All Defensive First Team. Despite being traded to the Boston Celtics in 2007, he is still a beloved figure in Minnesota, something that will not change any time soon.
