About the Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers, who were named after the city's long history with the brewing company, came to the city before the 1970 season. Bud Selig purchased the Seattle Pilots in 1969 and, being a native of Milwaukee, promptly moved the team to his hometown. In 1982, the team defeated the California Angels and advanced to the World Series versus the St. Louis Cardinals, their first and only fall classic appearance.

From 1970 through 1997, the Milwaukee Brewers played as part of Major League Baseball's American League. But following the 1997 season the Brewers were transferred to the National League Central Division as part of the baseball's realignment plan.
