This is the year of the pop/rock genre with television spinoffs and rocking divas, youthful exuberance tempered with middle-aged nostalgia including hair and boy bands. Alice in Candyland keeps Katy Perry whirling in this gargantuan California Dreams show while Britney Spears can still deliver the goods by resurfacing in yet another incarnation, this time the Femme Fatale has fans waiting with bated breath. Fans will remain titillated by the arrival of not one but two bubblegum princess this summer of 2011, one naughty, one…nicer but both massively entertaining and here to ensure a steady stream of soundbites, singles and videos. Only in the Internet age would television shows have concerts, and this year’s ridiculously high-selling American Idols and Glee Live tours prove that fans simply did not get enough this season. Heavy metal has proven to be hot for fans also. Def Leppard, Poison and Motley Crue may never stop touring the way things are going. Nostalgia has always been a big seller but this summer it’s back in spades with New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys, Journey, Rush and the Eagles getting in on the action.
