2011 Outside Lands Lineup

About the Outside Lands Festival

The Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival was founded in 2008. Despite being a new event in an already busy festival season, Outside Lands was able to attract up to 60,000 people for its headlining Radiohead concert. The following two years saw the festival grow even more, and 80,000 Outside Lands tickets were sold for the 2010 event.

Outside Lands has brought a range of talent to San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, including Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Cake, Broken Social Scene, and Janelle Monae. The festival is known for its greening efforts, including a bicycling initiative, compostable utensils, and water refill stations.

Located in Speedway Meadow and powered entirely by solar energy, This is Outside Lands’ sustainability mission and environmental commitment.  Over the past three years, Outside Lands has continued to implement innovative approaches to ensure the most environmentally sustainable event possible. Every single person attending Outside Lands will participate in decreasing the carbon footprint of the festival by checking out the hottest live acts featured on the solar-powered Panhandle Stage, choosing refillable water bottles over plastic ones, recycling and composting their waste, biking to the festival or picking up local food from our farmers' market and restaurants.

What is the Solar-Powered Panhandle Stage?

The Panhandle Stage is powered by 2.5 kW of solar, which supplies sunlight to (36) 6-volt batteries. The array powers (4) Outback Systems Inverters pumping 140 amps of power at 120 Volts. Outside Lands is utilizing the stage to demonstrate the direction and alternatives to the way power can be produced for live music events which shows a green alternative in the future.
